The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body against infection and to attack organisms and substances that invade body systems and cause disease.

The first line of defense are the white blood cells which are the first to recognize pathogens and fight off infection and which are produced in the bone marrow; lymph nodes, produce and store infection-fighting cells throughout the body; and the spleen helps control the amount of blood in the body and cleans out old or damaged blood cells from the body.
You might not want to think about this, but countless microbes live on and in our bodies, and they are not all bad. Actually they are necessary to maintain good health. Good bacteria actually provide a defense against bad bacteria and infection. Of course must have a balance. When good bacteria is reduced, bad bacteria can take over, making us feel sick.

The study, which tracked changes in optimism and immune response among first-year law students, found that as students became more optimistic they showed stronger cell-mediated immunity, the flood of immune cells that respond to an invasion by foreign viruses or bacteria.
