Woman with a heart in her mouthHow can brushing your teeth help your heart? First, check the ingredients on your toothpaste to see if it contains fluoride.  Then, to help your heart, switch brands so you can start brushing your teeth without this toxic chemical.

Dental fluorosis is a condition caused by too much fluoride.  Back in the 1950’s and 60’s, cities all across the USA started putting fluoride in our water supply because they thought it would help “fight cavities.”  Unfortunately, more and more studies are revealing how this harsh chemical is dangerous to your health.

"Fluoride was the key chemical in atomic bomb production", according to Fluoride, Teeth, And The Atomic Bomb By Joel Griffiths and Chris Bryson.  This article states, "Massive quantities of fluoride – millions of tons – were essential for the manufacture of bomb-grade uranium and plutonium for nuclear weapons throughout the Cold War. One of the most toxic chemicals known, fluoride rapidly emerged as the leading chemical health hazard of the U.S atomic bomb program--both for workers and for nearby communities."  This partially explains why typical name-brand toothpastes require a warning label to "call poison control" if swallowed.

Have you seen people with mottled teeth or brown spots?  That’s caused by too much fluoride. Fluoride is so strong it's used to etch glass!  When you're young, you can crush ice with your teeth, but when you're older, even drinking cold water can hurt because the fluoride has eaten away your teeth's enamel.  What do you suppose this toxic chemical does to arteries?

Now we know that Fluoride can not only damage the look of your teeth but also the health of your heart.  In 2013, a study in Ireland was prompted by concern that fluorosis might be linked with cardiovascular disease.  The study found that the concern was justified: “Dental Fluorosis is a biomarker for coronary heart disease.”  This research team observed that, “Children with dental fluorosis have a higher incidence of heart damage and an increase in abnormal heart rhythm than those without fluorosis.” Plain and simple, having too much fluoride can calcify your arteries and put you at risk for a heart attack.
