June 1, 2015, CNN and Don Melvin reported, “Researchers meeting in Chicago are hailing what they believe may be a potent new weapon in the fight against cancer: the body's own immune system.”
Immunotherapy Could Revolutionize Cancer Treatment
One of the promising new treatments that has researchers excited gives the immune system a boost. Nell Barrie, a spokeswoman for Cancer Research UK says this means “we have more immune cells” to battle the cancer cells. "We're looking at another weapon in the arsenal," she added.
Researchers Hail New Cancer Treatment: Unlocking The Body's Own Immune System
Unlike other diseases, the body does not identify cancer as an invader. Instead, cancer develops when "the body's own cells go rogue and the immune system does not recognize them as foreign". Immunotherapy teaches the immune system to attack cancer. The immunotherapy drugs, Barrie said, "Work to switch the immune system back on."
While this is good news for cancer research, there is still much to be done. Fortunately, today, we have greater knowledge about how to help the immune system function more efficiently.
Here are some healthy ways to reinforce the immune system that anyone can take immediately:
- Drink to your health. Instead of compromising the immune system with soft drinks or mega-dose caffeinated energy drinks, it is better to consume herbal beverages with green tea, a known immune system booster.
- Get plenty of rest. Lack of sleep has a detrimental effect on the immune system.
- Exercise moderately. Exercise can help the immune system to stay strong, but too much exercise can make it weaker. It's all about balance.
- Eat healthy foods. Discover nutrients that strengthen the T cells of the immune system. (***See specific herbal nutrients that feed the T cells.)
- Protect your skin. The skin is the first layer of your defense system. Use pH balanced natural skin care products
