We’re all about alkaline (basic) foods and drinks for the healthiest body, but when it comes to healthy skin, slightly acidic is best for pH balance.

What is pH Balance?

Why Do We Need pH Balanced Skin?

Properly pH balanced skin can protect against wrinkles, loss of firmness and elasticity, pigmentation, dryness, and a tired looking appearance.

  • Skin is the largest organ and the body’s first line of defense.
  • Skin is very fragile and complex – it lives, breathes, and carries out vital functions.
  • Skin protects against infections and germs.
  • Skin helps us excrete toxins and bodily wastes.Face Paint

Non-pH Balanced Skin Care Products Wreak Havoc

Many of the most popular skin care products being sold today treat the skin like a paint canvas, coating it with mineral oils, animal by-products, and other large particles that clog pores.  This actually accelerates the aging process because your skin is unable to breathe and function properly.  As a result, your skin grows weaker and more prone to the visible signs of aging.

A study published in 2011 by the British Journal of Dermatology tracked women over 8 years who were using "akaline" skin care products.  They found that these women developed more fine lines and wrinkles, were more prone to sun damage,  and some even had acne in their 40’s and 50’s.

Skin functions best in a naturally occurring acid environment of 5.5 - 6.5.

Acid MantleThe “acid mantle” keeps precious lipids and moisture in while blocking pollution,  toxins and bacteria.

So, it makes sense to use skin care products with perfect pH balance.  That, of course, means spending a few extra bucks for better quality ingredients.  However, it is crucial to use properly pH balanced skin care products daily for the best results, or get older, faster.
